Thing 10

Well that was easy too, down loading a book is much like down loading music for your mp3 player. Richard showed me how it is done.It is too bad that I broke my mp3 player...it sure made jogging with the dog and just plain drudgery type of house work much more enjoyable listening to music. The next player I get will get a titanium case for it and never ever be drop it or ripped it out of my ears when it gets hooked on something and I move. I think it is amazing that the books disappear after 3 weeks. How did they do that? Obviously bigger thinkers than I am with this stuff thought that one out. I do like the whole idea to down load audio books, so you can multi-task while listen to a book, music, fiction -non-fiction. As for the e-books their audience is a little smaller...but I can see students using them more than someone for pleasure. Less to carry around and the cost would be less.
For pleasure I would much rather read a book that I hold in my hands and turn the pages.
It is great that people can access the library website and data bases 24/7 to download books. Gee I could be in another country and still visit the Skokie Library and down load books that I want to read. cool...or I should say that is hot.
I have enjoyed doing the 10 things...do we get to 12 next time?

Thing 9

I didn't realize that I was already using the documents already, another "dah moment" for me. I do like the idea of being able to share the documents with others that you would be working on a project with. this method would save time and less can get loss. Plus the idea that you can open it just about where that you have Internet access is great. One negative thing that I have heard about the Google document from my college daughter is that it has messed up her word documents and a PowerPoint. She said that you should just be careful and make sure you save it. I love all this "stuff"and I am looking forward to using the ten things more and more in the future.

Thing 8

Wikis...that was easy and I can see how useful this format would be to use all the time to organize things, events, projects and thoughts. I wonder if the "staff day"
committee used a wiki to organize the even?

"Radical Trust" is something we must think about with social networking.

Thing 7

Pod casting...I got lost in this thing, thought I was never going to find what I was looking for. There are a ton of ways to use this format. The pod casts can report news, teach new ideas and using them for interviewing professional people about a subject, while you are walking around exploring a exhibit or just on a walk with your dog you could be learning something. Having a known authority narrate the subject of the pod cast gives more credibility. I subscribed to LibVibe the Library and NPR:Story of the Day for the library to use. LibVibe is for the staff for what is going on with other libraries in the news very relevant. NPR:Story of the day for off beat stories of interest, I would think that our patrons would be interested. For myself there were a million that I was interested in depending on the day and my mood so I just went with Podcacher because it it was out doors exploring natural surroundings from all over over the world. I did like the world music podcasts too...I had to stop and finish or I would lose another week listening to podcasts.

Thing 6

Well, I sure can see how social bookmarking would be helpful...it is up there with the RSS Feeds. Gee it just actually will save time, having others looking for sites that you are.
